Edinburg - Luis Garcia Jr., passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the age of 81. He was born on December 7, 1927 to Luis Sr. and Esiquia Garcia.
Mr. Garcia was a long time resident of Edinburg. He retired from The Monitor as a photographer after 39 years of service. Mr. Garcia was an active member of the McAllen Lions Club, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, where he was a greeter, McAllen Kiwanis Club, an honorary member of V.F.W Post 8788 of McAllen, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luis Sr. and Esiquia Garcia.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Vitalia; four daughters, Yolanda Cristina (Ruben) Ortega of Harlingen, Maria Elena (Jose Andres Jr.) Gutierrez of Buda, Texas, Maria del Carmen Garcia of Edinburg, Dalia Ann (Jaime) Garcia, of Primera ; two brothers, Guadalupe "Lupe" Garcia Sr., and Frank Garcia both of Edinburg; two sisters, Angela Sanchez of Granger, Washington and Lionela Reyna of Edinburg; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, February 16, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton, in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be Jose Andres Gutierrez, III, Ruben Ortega, Jr., Jose Alonzo Gutierrez, Jorge Luis Garcia, Guadalupe Garcia, Jr., and Aaron Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Pena and Brandon Pena.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
