MANUEL D. “TIGER” GARCIA, JR. EDINBURG – Manuel “Tiger” Garcia, Jr., 79, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family Friday, September 14, 2012, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. Born and raised in Benavides, TX, Manuel resided in Edinburg since 1967. He was a 1952 graduate of Benavides High School and attended the University of Texas School of Pharmacy in Austin, TX where he earned his degree as a Registered Pharmacist in 1956. While at UT, Manuel was a saxophone player for the Texas Longhorn marching band. “Tiger” as he was known by most, was the owner of Martin Drug Pharmacy of San Juan from 1967 to 1981. He was a member of Texas Pharmaceutical Association, Knights of Columbus, Acts Retreat, and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Edinburg. His number one hobby was golf and devoted all his time to his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Severa Garcia; and two brothers, Librado and Lorenzo Garcia. "Tiger" is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Delia A. Garcia; two daughters, Carmen (Fernando) Espericueta and Marissa A. Garcia; three grandchildren, Freddy Jr. (Emmy), Felicia, and Bianca De Luna; a great-grandchild, Aubrey Sophia Cervantes; and a sister, Josefina Garza, all of Edinburg. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 16, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Seaside Memorial in Corpus Christi, TX. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
