MARIA ELENA GARCIA

SAN JUAN - Maria Elena Garcia, 64, was called to be with the Lord Monday, May 3, 2010, at McAllen Heart Hospital surrounded by her family.

A former residend of McAllen, Ms. Garcia was born in Mission and had lived in San Juan for 16 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. She was employed as an art teacher by Harlingen ISD for 20 years and as an art and Spanish teacher at P-SJ-A ISD for eight years until her retirement in 2000.

Ms. Garcia is survived by her mother, Isidora Salinas; a sister, Anita Garcia; a brother-in-law, Esteban Garcia, Jr., all of San Juan; three nieces, Rosie (Scot) Shepard of Pearland, Texas, Illeanna (Rey) Aguirre of San Juan, Adrianna (Bill) Searcy of San Antonio, Texas; two grandnieces, Alyanna and Jordanna Shepard; two grandnephews, Tristan and Tyler Aguirre; an aunt, Maria Guadalupe Salinas of Mission; three uncles, Crecencio (Alicia) Salinas of Mission, Elias Salinas, Jr. of McAllen, Rey Jimenez of Plainview, Texas; and numerous cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Ms. Garcia was a dear and loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and shared special moments with her.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, May 6, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 am Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
