MISSION – Richard “Dicky” Garrett, 70, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Richard graduated from PSJA High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served 4 tours in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart Recipient. Richard later attended Schreiner College where he earned a Bachelors in Business Administration, and also received a Master of Education from Sul-Ross University.
Richard was a loving husband, devoted father and proud Grandpa. He maintained a close relationship with classmates from every level of school and his coworkers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ruth Egly.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lulu Garrett of Mission; a daughter, Jaime (Jarrett) Hill of Kerrville, TX, a son, Ben Garrett of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Alexandria Hill and Creston Hill of Kerrville, TX; a sister, Karen (Jim) Whittenberg of San Antonio, TX; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Nap) Prudencio of Mission; and a niece, Summer (Russel) Gribble of New Braunfels, TX.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, May 29, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
