ADALBERTO " BETO" GARZA, SR. EDINBURG - Adalberto "Beto" Garza, Sr. born on July 29, 1936 passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Edinburg and raised in El Tule Ranch in San Manuel, Texas. Beto is preceded in death by his parents, Santana and Dionicia Garza; his sisters, Felia (+Jose) Rodriguez, Dionicia (+David) Self, Armandina Perez and Marta (Arturo) Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife, Sinforosa Cantu Garza; six children, Adalberto (Cathy) Garza, Jr., Esteban (Juany) Garza, Carlos (Mercedes) Garza, Myrna (Jesus) Balderas, Santana (Sandra) Garza and Dalinda (Larry) Smith. His legacy includes 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Lydia (Thomas +) Rendon, Sijifredo (Olga) Garza, Santana (Elma) Garza and Graciela (Arnoldo) Garza. Beto was a long time professional bus driver for 50 plus years for Valley Transit, Trailways and Greyhound Bus Lines. He was recognized with a 3,000,000 Mile Safety Award for his great awareness of safety as he transported many people throughout the country. Beto loved the outdoors; hunting, ranching and he also enjoyed watching sports. He was so proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He was a devoted and well-known ABC fan (anybody but the Cowboys). The family would like to offer their special thanks and appreciation to CIMA Health Care, Dr. Antonio Wong and Dr. Hillary Almeida. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in San Manuel. Cremation will take place at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
