Alberto Garza, 77, entered eternal rest Friday, November 25, 2022, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Yakima, Washington, Mr. Garza had lived in Edinburg for many years and was formerly of Elsa. He had a profound passion for education and was a teacher for 51 years at several school districts including Edcouch-Elsa ISD, McAllen ISD, and most recently La Joya ISD. He was a coach for many of those years, instilling his love of sports in countless athletes.
He was an avid golfer, a dedicated swimmer, and had a lifelong love for the game of basketball.
Above all he will be remembered for his love of life and his kindness for all. The light he shone will continue to provide strength and guidance for those he cherished. His absence here with us is his presence in the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ysidro and Eusebia Garza; and five siblings Zoila Olivares, Ernesto Garza, Natalia Nevarez, Emilio Garza, and Lupita Aguirre.
Alberto is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nelda Garza of Edinburg; three children, Marco (Aurelia) Garza of Edcouch, Alyssa (Steve Melone) Garza, Alberto Garza II, both of Edinburg; five grandchildren, Christopher Munoz, Sophia Garza, Yvanna Garza, Jackson Melone, and Kaitlyn Melone.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
