EDINBURG — Raquel Garza Calvillo, 71, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pharr, Texas, Mrs. Calvillo lived in Edinburg most of her life and worked with the Edinburg School District at Edinburg High School for 34 years as an attendance secretary and a computer lab teacher aide.
She loved music, dancing, singing, and cooking for her family and friends. Her unconditional love and generous spirit won her many life-long friends. She will be remembered for being the life of the party and bringing cheer to people. She would light up a room with her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and memorable storytelling. Her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and dear friends will always cherish these memories - her spirit will live on.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus B. Calvillo; her mother, Guadalupe Martinez, and her sister, Mary Alice Medina.
Raquel is survived by her two children - Miguel (Enriqueta) Calvillo of Edinburg and Sonia Calvillo Camacho of McAllen; four grandchildren, Alec Calvillo and Daniel, Dylan, Joshua Camacho; seven siblings Irma (Abel) Guajardo of Richmond, VA, Lupita (Joe) Rosado of Zion, IL, Pedro (Martha) Martinez and Leo Martinez of Gary, IN, Jimmy (Imelda) Martinez of Chicago, IL, Ruben Martinez and Elvia (Bill) Guinn, both of Pharr, TX.
Visitation will be held today, March 13, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7p.m. rosary, at Memorial Funeral Home (208 E. Canton, Edinburg, TX). Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
