Elida P. Garza, 95, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Brookdale Beckett Meadows in Austin.
Elida was born to Faustino and Fidela Perez on January 5, 1926, in Premont, Texas. She attended Durham Business College, on a scholarship, after graduating from Premont High School and later moved to Edinburg, Texas where she met and married Jesus A. Garza in 1948. Mrs. Garza was employed with the Hidalgo County Tax Office from 1945 to 1952. Elida later moved to Hargil, Texas, to a farm and county life, with her husband where they raised their two sons. To make ends meet, she would raise chickens to sell eggs, and she would sell dresses and curtains that she made. She loved gardening and won local awards for her roses and her well-maintained yard. In 1957 she returned to employment with the Hidalgo County Tax Office where she retired in 1988. One of her proudest achievements, while working with the county was the transition in her department from written tax records to computerized record keeping. Elida lived her life with the belief that anything could be achieved with hard work and a positive "can-do" attitude. Driven by her faith, she looked for the best in a person's character and would assist anyone in need with a smile. Kindness and compassion. We will miss her, but with our loss will be her eternal gain.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus A. Garza; her parents, Faustino and Fidela Perez.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her two children, Lamar (Linda) Garza, and Noel Garza; two grandchildren, Dominic and Jennifer (Dale).
