ESTHER TIJERINA GARZA
EDINBURG — Esther Tijerina Garza, 89, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg after a long illness.
Esther was a South Texas native who was born in Yorktown, TX., on May 3, 1922, and moved to Edinburg in 1945 with her family in the aftermath of World War II. Esther came from a farming family led by her father, Salvador, who farmed lands across South Texas and in West Texas before the family moved to the Rio Grande Valley.
In 1977, Esther married Erasmo Garza, a Korean War veteran, and she continued to live in Edinburg throughout her married years. Esther is preceded in death by her husband, Erasmo, and her parents, Salvador and Lily Tijerina, along with three of her siblings, sisters Elvira Tijerina Garza and Edelia Tijerina Garcia, and a brother Roberto Tijerina.
Esther is survived by a sister, Leonor Tijerina Cavazos of Edinburg, and a brother, Daniel Tijerina of San Antonio.
She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Esther was a gentle and kind person who loved music and was a skilled seamstress.
Her family loved her and will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, April 29, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Edinburg with Pastor David Blanco officiating. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
Pallbearers will be Julian Cavazos, Samuel Cavazos, Joe Noe Cavazos, Daniel E. Silva, David Tijerina and Christopher Tijerina.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Edinburg.
