FELIPA "PIPA" G. GARZA
PHARR - Felipa "Pipa" G. Garza, 92, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Although Pipa was born in Dr. Gonzalez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, she lived most of her life in Pharr, and she was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr. Her fondest religious memories all started and now will end in St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Her husband, Antonio R. Garza; her two children, Lupita and Basilio Garza; a brother, Encarnacion Gutierrez; and a sister, Blanca Gutierrez are joyfully receiving Pipa with open arms in Heaven. This most assuredly because Pipa firmly believed in Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she lived every day in anticipation of this joyous reunion.
Pipa's legacy is her family. She was very proud of her six children, Socorro (Vicente) Martinez, Irene (Mike) Cano, Heriberto (Lori) Garza, Luis Antonio (Yolanda) Garza, all of Pharr, Napoleon (Maria L.) Garza, of San Antonio, Texas, Diamantina (Juan M.) Pena, of McAllen; a special Godson, Victor Valdez, of Rio Grande City, who called her every Saturday just to talk to her; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Felix Gutierrez, of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Angel Gutierrez, of Palmview; and three sisters, Raquel Martinez, of Repueblo De Oriente, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Angelica Gutierrez and Emilia Reyes, both of Pharr.
Pipa and her husband, Antonio, wove part of the tapestry called America as they forged, along with various families, into unknown agricultural markets in Florida, California, and Washington, but always coming back to their Pharr. All those that met Pipa were enriched with her strength of character, her strong religious inner faith, and her positive attitude. She never backed away from life, and to the end, when asked how she was doing, her reply was simply "a toda madre". Ironically, Pipa was the oldest living relative of the approximately 1000 member Garza Ramos family reunion being held at the time of her passing. All her countless nephews and nieces will miss their Tia Pipa in her beautiful red dress.
Special thanks go to Dr. Omar Gomez, Dr. Victor Haddad, and all those truly special nurses that work at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.
