JESSE V. DE LA GARZA EDINBURG – Jesse V. De La Garza, 95, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Arbor View Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Edinburg. Born in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Mr. De La Garza had lived in Edinburg since 1923. He was a United States Army Veteran whom served in WWII from September 1941 to September 1945 in the South Pacific. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Elvira De La Garza, of Edinburg; five children, Dr. Andrew (Dr. Donna Joule) De La Garza, of McAllen, Peter (Alma) De La Garza, John De La Garza, Helen (Tommy) Santiago, Dr. Norma (Roland) Alonzo, all of Edinburg; seven grandchildren, Nicholas De La Garza, of Austin, Dominic De La Garza, of San Antonio, Matthew Alonzo, Phillip Alonzo, Nathan Santiago, all of Edinburg, Gina De La Garza, Carly De La Garza, both of McAllen; three sisters, Macaria Gorena, Evangelina Guerra, Isabel Flores, all of Edinburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, January 16, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Pallbearers will be children of his siblings, Richard Guerra, Julio De La Garza, Jr., Sam De La Garza, Fernando De La Garza, Bobby Gorena and Pete De La Garza. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
