Perfecto Garza died on May 16, 2017 in Edinburg at the age of 72.
He was born on April 18, 1945 in Edinburg to his parents, Cornelio and Margarita (Luevano) Garza. He graduated from the University of Texas Pan America with a degree in Psychology. He served in the US Navy on the USS Glover in 1965 where he was present during the commission along with the original crew. Mr. Garza was an entrepreneur most of his career and ran for county clerk, Sheriff and the School Board, in his hometown of Edinburg. He was a CASA advocate volunteer for the children in the Hidalgo County court system and volunteered his time as a Precinct Judge during the elections. He was a farmer & rancher, and enjoyed having breakfast with his brothers on Saturdays.
Mr. Garza was a kind, patient and supportive father with a passion for his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was passionate about science fiction movies and collected comic books.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (David) Sutton of Montgomery, TX, Melissa (Andrew) Wheeler of Seattle, WA; adopted daughter, Elizabeth Garza Kerbow of Edinburg; grandchildren, Andrew (Victoria) Garza, Chandler, Kendall Hill, Brian, Cole & Landry Sutton, Bianca Waters, Andrew and Brandon Wheeler; siblings Amelia Garza (+John) Dodd, Angie Garza, Yolanda Garza (Forest) Thomson, Fernando (Linda) Garza, Cornelio Garza Jr. Wilfredo (Carmen) Garza, Israel (Irma) Garza, Elizabeth Garza Griffth all Edinburg, Enrique (Vangie) Garza of Mission and Jorge (Rosie) Garza of Monte Alto; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Perfecto Garza Jr.; his parents, Cornelio and Margarita Garza, his sister, America Garza.
Viewing will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
