SAN ISIDRO/RIO GRANDE CITY - On Thursday, April 30, 2020, Leonzo Garza Sr., a loving son, brother, father and uncle passed away at the age of 61. He was born on August 7, 1958 to Santiago “Chago” Garza and the late Julia (Trevino) Garza.
Leonzo was a lifetime resident of San Isidro where he graduated from high school in 1977, went on to attend Texas State Technical Institute College and graduated with a degree in Animal Science. Upon graduation, he went on to work in the oil field industry with Exxon/Mobil until his retirement after 35 years of service.
He had a love for the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Leonzo also volunteered with law enforcement and served as a certified deputy at various counties throughout the State of Texas.
Leonzo is survived by his two sons, Leonzo Garza Jr. of Mission, and Jose Garza of Houston; his father, Santiago “Chago” Garza Jr. of San Isidro; three sisters, Gloria G. Esparza, Idalia “Dolly” (Grace Vargas) Garza, both of McAllen, Nidia “Nina” (Emily) Garza of Edinburg; two nephews, Ricardo Esparza of San Isidro, Derrick Esparza of Edinburg; a niece, Ashley (David) Villarreal; and the mother of his children, Veronica Magallan of McAllen.
His witty sense of humor will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
