BENITO G. GAUNA, SR.
PHARR - Benito G. Gauna, Sr., 80, died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
Mrs. Gauna was born in Westoff, Texas and had lived in Pharr most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by City of Pharr for 28 years until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Gauna was a very active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Pharr.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elisa Gauna; four brothers, Alberto, Leon, Nicanor and Carlos Gauna; and two sisters, Maria Aguilar and Manuela Marez.
Mr. Gauna is survived by ten children, Gracie Sandoval, Antonia (Roel) Saenz, both of McAllen, Benito (Norma) Gauna Jr., Robert (Cindy) Gauna, Melissa Gauna, all of Pharr, Agustin (Mari) Gauna, of San Benito, Samuel (Becky) Gauna, of La Feria, Virginia (Rick) Castro, of San Juan, Leonel Gauna, of Austin and Manuel (Diana) Gauna, of San Antonio; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; special niece and nephews, Diana, Apolonio and Nicanor; a brother-in-law, Alex Anzaldua; two brothers, Agustin Gauna Jr. and Felimon Gauna; and a sister, Julia Olivarez.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, February 15, 2011, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Pharr. Funeral servive will be at 10 am, Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
