JOE E. GILLIAM PHARR— Joe E. Gilliam, 89, died Monday, December 8, 2014, at Solara Hospital in Edinburg. Mr. Gilliam was born in Freestone County, TX on January 8, 1925. He had lived in Pharr since 2009 and was formerly of Edinburg. Joe was a member of First United Methodist Church in Edinburg, and a veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Alice and Edinburg. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty J. Gilliam; and a brother, James B. Gilliam. Joe is survived by two sons, Michael D. (Barbara) Gilliam of Los Angeles, CA and Larry J. (Diana) Gilliam of Irving, TX; three granchildren, Ross L. (Donna) Gilliam of Corpus Christi, TX, Austin R. Gilliam of Kyle, TX, Chelsea L. Gilliam of West Yarmouth, MA; two great-grandchildren, Steven C. Gilliam and Sloane E. Gilliam. Memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. today, January 8, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Edinburg. Interment of cremated remains will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, TX. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
