CARLOS "CHUCK" R. GOMEZ
SAN JUAN - Carlos "Chuck" R. Gomez, 66, died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Born in San Juan, Mr. Gomez had lived there all of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps., serving during Vietnam. After his service in the military, Mr. Gomez was employed by Time Warner Cable and then opened Gomez Shamrock in McAllen. He later worked for Texas Migrant Council and then for P-SJ-A ISD until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Gomez was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of San Juan and coached PONY baseball in San Juan for over 20 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo and Juliana Gomez; and a brother, Guadalupe Gomez.
Mr. Gomez is survived by his wife, Maria Carmen Gomez; a son, Juan Carlos Gomez; a daughter, Veronica (Alberto) Castor, all of San Juan; three grandchildren, Christina Marroquin, Ezequiel Castor, Alicia Raquel Gomez; two brothers, Teofilo (Zenaida) Gomez Jr., of Puerto Rico, Felix (Linda) Gomez, of McAllen; two sisters, Dora Alicia (Robert) Villa, Juliana (Ruben Sr.) Martinez, both of San Juan; and his in-laws, Cayetano and Juanita Cabrieles, of San Juan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
