EVERARDO “VERE” GOMEZ, SR. On June 3, 2015, our beloved Father Everardo “Vere” Gomez, Sr. 84 yrs old, residing in Edinburg originally from Mission went to be with the Lord. By his side was his loving wife of 61 years Sylvia and his family. Son of Francisco and Maria Gomez, born on February 21, 1931 in Mission, Texas. He was a loving family man, hardworking, an excellent provider and a loyal friend. He will be missed greatly, but his legacy will continue through his family. Vere, a 1948 Mission High School graduate was a successful insurance salesman and in his later years a dry goods store manager (J & V Mart, Edinburg). Preceded in death by his parents, Fransisco and Maria Gomez; his in-laws, Manuel and Estella Chaveznava; and other family members, Ricky Garza Sr., Angela Garza and Jax Gomez. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Chaveznava Gomez; his nine children, Everardo (Lupita) Gomez Jr., Yvonne (Amado) Bazan Jr., Sylvia (Jimmy) De Luna, Fransisco “Frank” (Gloria) Gomez, Becky (Ricky+) Garza Sr., Mike (Barbara) Gomez, Myrthala (Arnoldo) Gonzalez Sr., Claudia (Rogelio) Mora, Abby (Ruben) Gomez Jr., along with 29 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his four beautiful sisters aka “The Golden Girls”, Emma (Arturo+) Gonzalez, Bertha (Jose M.+) Perez, Tina (Luis) Ramirez, Alma Gloria (David+) Garcia Sr.; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family wants to give special thanks the his daily caregivers who provided care during his last years; Abby Gomez, Andy Gomez, Kassy Gomez, Emma Garcia and his hospice nurse Mike Torres. Representing each of Vere and Sylvia’s nine children are the grandchildren pallbearers: Vere Gomez III, Amado Bazan III, Leo Limon Jr., Frank Gomez II, Ricky Garza Jr., Anthony Gomez, Arnoldo Gonzalez Jr. & Alex Gonzalez, Eric Mora and Ruben Gomez. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, June 4, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
