Valdemar Gomez SAN JUAN - Valdemar Gomez, 93, entered eternal peace and love with our Father on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at the San Juan Nursing Home. Valdemar was born on February 17, 1921 in San Juan to Febronio Gomez and Gregoria Medina. Our father worked for Sears for many years and for the Hidalgo County Sherriff's Department. He and my mother ran Jessie's Flower Shop for many years. He, along with our mother was honored as San Juan Man and Woman of the Year in 2003. He was proud to have served in the United States Army. Our father was a hardworking man who always placed his family first. His greatest joy was having his family around him. He enjoyed Cantinflas movies, western paperbacks and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carlos and Ramon; five sisters, Juanita, Isidra, Aurora, Guadalupe and Eva. He is survived by his wife, Jesusa; five children, Bertha (+Salvador) Garza, Irma Infante, Valdemar Gomez, Jr., Gilberto (Delia) Gomez, and Cynthia Gomez; 12 grandchildren, Ricardo (Brenda) Garza, Aida (Floyd) Garcia, Laura (Philip) Perez, Diana (Jason) De Leon, Veronica (Javier) Rosado, Sylvia (Nicholas) Flynt, Carlos Gomez, Monica (Jacob) Gracia, Aissa (Andre) Moser, Adriana Rodriguez(+), Erica Rodriguez, (fiance, Marcos Villarreal) Robert Rodriguez, and Sarah Rodriguez; 15 great-grandchildren, Laura Vela, Adriana Vela, Sophia and Bianca De Leon, Matthew Sustaita, Airon and Aria Garcia, Bella and Alix Moser, Ava Gomez, Carolina Flynt, Genevieve Flynt and Joaquin Flynt, Sophia Rosado and Sasha Rosado. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our most sincere appreciation for the love, compassion and care that our father received during his last five years as a resident at San Juan Nursing Home. There are no words to express our appreciation to the nurses/staff that tended him with respect and dignity till the end. Including: Fina, Sandra Basaldua, Sandra Cantu, Claudio, Linda,Tina, Raul, Vanessa, Maricela, Elizabeth and the many others who cared for him. Dad loved you very much. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, December 26, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
