BENITO C. GONZALEZ SAN JUAN – Benito C. Gonzalez, 79, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother went to be with the lord on Saturday, December 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at Las Palmas Nursing Home in McAllen. Benito was born on March 21, 1933 in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon. He came to the United States at the age of 17 and served as a Bracero from 1950’s through the 1960’s. He came searching for the American dream as many others have, so he could give his family the opportunity for a better life. He was a simple and honest man who served as a great example to his children and siblings. All who know him had a tremendous love and respect for him. Benito always found a way to help his extended family and friends which made him the richest man in the world. He had lived in San Juan for over 38 years and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marciano and Manuela Gonzalez; sister, Petrita Salinas; brother, Graciano Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife of 51 years, San Juana D. Gonzalez; two sons, Juan M. (Lilia) Gonzalez, Jorge L. (Bertha) Gonzalez; two daughters, Norma (Sindulfo) Cantu, Ofelia (Miguel) Pena; five grandchildren who loved him dearly, Julissa Cantu, Juan M. Gonzalez Jr., Carlos Cantu, Jorge L. Gonzalez Jr., and Clarissa Pena; three brothers, Lino Gonzalez, Melquiades Gonzalez, Orlando Gonzalez; three sisters, Elvia Pena, Clara Gonzalez, and Amelia Gonzalez. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, December 10, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
