ERASMO GONZALEZ SAN JUAN — Erasmo Gonzalez, 81 died Sunday, November 16, 2014, at McAllen Heart Hospital. Born in McAllen, Mr. Gonzalez had lived in San Juan all of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. Mr. Gonzalez was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War from August of 1968 through August of 1969. He was a member of American Legion Post 101 of Pharr and a volunteer with the San Juan Fire Department from 1970 to 2004. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and an Auxiliary Member of The Legion of Mary. He became certified by the San Juan Diego Ministry Institute as a Eucharistic Minister in 2009. He retired from PSJA School District as a bus driver in 2006 and as a school crossing guard of Buckner Elementary in 2009. Mr. Gonzalez is preceded in death by his wife, Socorro Gonzalez; and his parents, Basielia and Jose Gonzalez. He is survived by his daughter, Leticia (Alfredo Trevino) Torres of San Juan; a granddaughter, Susie Torres of San Juan; and a great-granddaughter, Mari’Ana Torres of San Juan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
