GILBERTO GONZALEZ
SAN JUAN – Gilberto Gonzalez, 96, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at McAllen Medical Center.
Mr. Gonzalez was born in Pharr and had lived in San Juan most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. While in the military, he was stationed in New Guinea and Leyte, Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Domingo and Antonia Gonzalez.
Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Belen Guajardo Gonzalez, of San Juan; two sons, Gilberto Gonzalez Jr., of Fontana, California, Mario Gonzalez, of Vista, California; three daughters, Olga Gonzalez Padilla, of Hacienda Heights, California, Guadalupe Gonzalez Fragoza, Maria Alicia Gonzalez Valencia, both of Ontario, California; two sisters, Ernestina Alvarez, of Pharr, Ninfa Perez, of McAllen; and a brother, Pat Gonzalez, of Pharr.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, November 9, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
