GUADALUPE BARRIENTES GONZALEZ EDINBURG – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guadalupe Barrientes Gonzalez, 72, on July 25, 2012 at Solara Hospital in McAllen. Mrs. Gonzalez was born July 5, 1940, in Edinburg , where she was a lifelong resident. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and worked at Grandview Hospital in Edinburg for several years. Mrs. Gonzalez later met her husband, Juan, and devoted her life to raising their three children. She enjoyed reading a good western book, doing crossword puzzles and tending to her garden. Lupita was a devout Catholic who attended Holy Family Church in Edinburg. She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan O. Gonzalez; her parents, Jose and Fidencia Barrientes; her in-laws, Bartolo and Chonita Ramirez; and two infant brothers. Lupita is survived by her two daughters, Margarita Gonzalez, of Chicago, IL, Sharon (David) Rowe; a son, Juan Gonzalez II, both of Edinburg; two grandsons, Steve (Hilary) Rowe, of Baltimore, MD, and Dan (Allison) Rowe, of Camp Lejuene, NC; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Weston; five sisters, Socorro (Jose) Garcia, Mary Rodriguez, Janie Pequeño (Gil Hernandez), Terry (Lorenzo) Contreras and Gloria (Joe) Eureste, all of Edinburg; five brothers, Jose (Elena) Barrientes of Santa Fe, NM, Felipe (Lydia) Barrientes, Francisco (Martha) Barrientes, both of Edinburg, Juan (Irene) Barrientes, of Pharr and Guadalupe (Celia) Rodriguez, of San Juan; four sisters-in-law, Santos Leal of Grant, MI, Isabel Ramirez, of Edinburg, Carmen Ramirez and Mary Ellen O'Brien, both of Phoenix, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, July 27, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
