GUSTAVO J. GONZALEZ MCALLEN - Gustavo J. Gonzalez, 53, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Gustavo had lived in McAllen for 20 years. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Pharr. Mr. Gonzalez started his federal career with the United States Border Patrol in November 1985 with session 179 in McAllen, TX. and served at the Rio Grande City Station as well. He obtained his pilot's license in 1996 working with Border Patrol and He went to El Paso Sector in 2004 where he served as an assistant Chief Patrol Agent. He later went to El Paso Border Patrol Training Center as a Director and later He returned in 2008 as a Director of Air and Marine Operations. In 2009 he completed Senior Executive Fellows at the Harvard Kennedy School. Then happily retired in 2012. As a retiree, he enjoyed his building aircraft models and loved his wife and children more than anything in the world. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pedro Ramon and Antonio Mancera. Gustavo is survived by his wife of 31 years, Amy Gonzalez of McAllen; three daughters, Amanda Gonzalez of El Paso, TX, Alysa Gonzalez, Angela K. Gonzalez both of McAllen; three grandchildren; his parents, Francisco and Anna Gonzalez of Quemado, TX; and two sisters, Linda (Steve) Lopez, and Cynthia Gonzalez, both of San Antonio, TX. Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Pharr. Cremation will take place at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
