Joaquin “Kino” Gonzalez Jr.
EDINBURG – Joaquin “Kino” Gonzalez Jr. 75, entered into his peaceful journey to heaven on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Born in Edinburg, Mr. Gonzalez had lived there all of his life. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Mr. Gonzalez was in the U.S. Army and served during the Cold War.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joaquin Gonzalez Sr. and a brother-in-law, Ramon Ramos.
Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Sofia M. Gonzalez; two children are honored to call him their Dad, Sandra (Rubio O. Jr.) Salinas and Joaquin (Rachel) Gonzalez III; six grandchildren, Julissa Jean (Cesar) Guiza, Joaquin (Denise) Gonzalez IV, Matthew Lee Gonzalez, Sophia Alessandra Salinas, Rubio O. Salinas III, Eduardo Alberto Salinas; his mother, Ramona S. Gonzalez all of Edinburg; siblings, America ( Pat) Escamilla, Gonzalo (Annie) Gonzalez, Arnold Gonzalez, Yolanda Ramos; he will be greatly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, July 15, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 101 of Pharr. Pallbearers will be Patrick Kennedy, Martin Ramos, Joaquin Gonzalez IV, Matthew Lee Gonzalez, Cesar Guiza and Patricio Escamilla III . Honorary pallbearer will be Eduardo Alberto Salinas.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance on the 2nd and 4th ICU floors and the emergency’s room; a special thanks to Dr. Raul Martinez, Dr. Linda Villarreal and Dr. Rajeer Mathavan for their compassion and guidance.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
