JOSEFINA GONZALEZ EDCOUCH - Josefina Gonzalez, 97, died Saturday, August 17, 2013, at her residence in Edcouch. Mrs. Gonzalez was born in Mexico and was a naturalized citizen of the United States. She lived in Edcouch all of her life where she served faithfully to her Lord and Savior for 67 years and was recognized for 50 years of faithful service to her church and community. She was a pioneer and member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Edcouch. She taught the children and ladies of the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. Gonzalez also served as a treasurer to the WMU. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Gonzalez; her parents, Evencio and Apolonia Aja; three brothers, Evencio, Tomas and Moyces Aja. Mrs. Gonzalez is survived by eight children, Josefina (Ruben) Pena, David Gonzalez, both of Elsa, Evangelina (Terry Lunsford) Marmolejo, Esmelda (Delray) Bruce, Elma Carter, Ruth (Lupe) Farias, Esther Cerda, all of Houston, Liz Rios, of Edcouch; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Maria Luisa (Benito) Limas, of Edcouch, Manuela Ozuna, of Caldwell, Idaho, Mary (Isaac) Chavez and Maria Refugio Castillo, both of Fresno, California. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, August 19, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
