JUAN O. GONZALEZ
EDINBURG – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Staff Sergeant Juan O. Gonzalez, U.S. Army, Retiree, on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Solara Hospital in McAllen.
Born in Edinburg, Texas on May 16, 1939, Juan was a life long resident of the valley. He attended Edinburg High School and worked with Kentucky and Reliable Life Insurance for 26 years. Mr. Gonzalez also served with the U.S. Army, Texas National Guard for 29 years and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto Gonzalez and Margarita Olvera; foster parents/padrinos, Bartolo and Chonita Ramirez; in-laws, Jose and Fidencia Barrientes; three sisters, Josefina Leal, Tomasa Hernandez and Dominga Contreras; two brothers, Cosme Leal and Eusebio O. Gonzalez; and his beloved pet cat “Lato”.
Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife of 47 years, Guadalupe B. Gonzalez of Edinburg; two daughters, Margarita Gonzalez of Edinburg, Sharon (Dave) Rowe, of Baltimore, Maryland; a son, Juan Gonzalez, II of Edinburg; three sisters, Santos Leal of Grant, Michigan, Isabel Ramirez of Edinburg and Carmen D. Ramirez of Phoenix, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; two step-grandsons, Daniel and Steve (Hilary) Rowe; and a step-great-grandson, Josh.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, June 6, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, CCD Building Fund in Edinburg.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Edinburg Regional Medical Center, McAllen Medical Center and Solara Hospital 8 west; and also his doctors, Ben Garza, Dr. Mangi, Dr. Albustami, Dr. Salinas, Dr. Farias and Victor Gonzalez.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
