SERGIO VALENTIN GONZALEZ EDINBURG - Sergio Valentin Gonzalez, 53, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at his residence in Edinburg. Mr. Gonzalez was born in Pharr and had lived in Edinburg for 18 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Persian Gulf War. Mr. Gonzalez was employed by Edinburg Police Department and retired as a lieutenant after 31 years of service. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Amelia Mesa. Mr. Gonzalez is survived by three siblings, Armando (Amalia) Gonzalez, of San Antonio, Raquel (Rudy) Hernandez, Pedro (Rosa Maria) Botello, both of San Juan; nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Robert) Garcia, Marylou Gonzalez, Sara Rivera, Angelica Gonzalez, Juan Alberto Gonzalez, Rudy Hernandez, Jr., Charlie (Carla) Hernandez, Eddie (Esmeralda) Hernandez, Jesus Antonio Botello, Martin Amador Botello and Rolando Alfredo Botello. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, September 21, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
