LIDIA GORDON EDINBURG - Lidia Gordon, 88, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Senior Care of Edinburg. Born in Mission, Lidia grew up in La Reforma, Texas and graduated as Valedictorian of San Isidro High School. Prior to becoming an educator, she was employed by the county clerk and district attorney's office of Hidalgo County. She began her 40 year teaching career at Travis Elementary in Edinburg and spent the majority of her career with the Edinburg School District until retiring from Jefferson Elementary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecilio and Lorenza Longoria; two brothers, Elias Longoria and Aaron Longoria; and two sisters, Lucia "Nena" West and Ofelia Dees. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Patterson Gordon; two children, Charles Gordon and Mark (Christine) Gordon, all of Edinburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Gordon; and two sisters, Elma Vela, of Arlingon, Oregon and Rosa Elena March, of St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday, March 10, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Cremation will take place at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Private interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
