DANIEL DAVID GORENA
EDINBURG - Daniel David “Danny” Gorena, 56, departed earth Saturday, February 19, 2011 to begin his heavenly journey. Born July 25, 1954 to Roberto Sr. and Macaria Gorena, Danny always marched to the beat of his own drum. Fun-loving and adventuresome, Danny also found great joy in showering his affection on his numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Whenever he had a spare moment, he spent it enjoying the serene outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Danny earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science with a minor in business from Pan American University (UTPA) in Edinburg. He became a sworn Texas Peace Officer and worked as a bailiff at the Hidalgo County Court at Law.
One of Danny’s greatest journeys was teaching World History at Edinburg North High School for 10 years. He delighted in teaching his students about the world, its people and its politics. When around family and friends, Danny loved to question them about current events, insisting that they remain mindful of the importance of knowing what was happening in the world.
Danny’s passion for travel lured him to leave the classroom to work at the Victory Base Complex in Baghdad, Iraq. While in Western Asia, Danny also spent time working in Turkey. He took advantage of the opportunity to see more of the world and especially enjoyed the trips he took to Dubai.
Danny is preceded in death by his father, Roberto Elias Gorena, Sr. and his little brother Raul Rene Gorena.
He is survived by his mother, Macaria G. Gorena, of Edinburg; two sisters, Mariella Gorena of McAllen, Macaria “Caro” Palmetier (Randy) of Austin; a brother Roberto Elias Gorena, Jr. of Edinburg and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
