EDWIN J. GRANT
McALLEN - Edwin J. Grant, 96, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at McAllen Heart Hospital.
He was born on February 14, 1914, in Wheeling, Missouri to Will and Mary Agnes MacKenzie Grant. Edwin proudly served in the U.S. Army from April 4, 1941 to July 8, 1945, receiving the purple heart, and finishing his military career as a sergeant.
Mr. Grant retired from Bethlehem Steel in Peoria Illinois after 37 years. Edwin will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. He enjoyed living in south Texas after retiring and appreciated all the help and friendship he received at Heritage Village.
Edwin was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice and three brothers, Robert, Ronald, and Bernard.
He is survived by a nephew, James B. Grant of Shawnee, Kansas; and two nieces, Martha E. Henry of Roeland Park, Kansas and Carol J. Grant of Tampa, Florida.
Visitation will be held at 11 am, Friday, May 28, 2010, with a 12:30 pm chapel service at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Interment will follow at 2 pm at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
