GUADALUPE VALDEMAR “GV” GUERRA ALAMO – Guadalupe Valdemar “GV” Guerra, 78, decided it was time to call it a day and peacefully entered eternal rest on December 11, 2014, with his joy of 48 years by his side. Born in 1936, Guerra married his sweetheart, Maria Viola Jimenez in 1966; they had five children. Guerra honorably served his country in the US Army. His family, friends, and community, affectionately knew him as Chacho, and G.V. To his children, father will forever be his name. Guerra was extremely proud of his sons and daughter’s accomplishments and achievements, always making sure to let them know they were all his number one. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Guerra enjoyed a lifetime of adventures on the open road as a successful, self-employed truck driver. His tall tales and wild stories of the open road are legendary to his family and friends. To his children, it is the escapades they experienced with him that will be their most cherished memories. As a family man, he always placed others needs before his own. It didn’t matter how difficult the situation was, he always made sure his family and friends were taken care of. Through hard work, dedication, strong belief in humanity he nurtured and encouraged opportunity at every corner with every life he touched. His family, children and grandchildren loved him tremendously; his passing leaves an immense emptiness, he will be truly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Candelario and Frutosa Guerra; and a brother, Baldomero Guerra. Guerra leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his adoring wife, Maria Viola Jimenez Guerra of Alamo; five children, Valde (Margarita “Rita”) Guerra of McAllen, Omar (Blanca) Guerra of Alamo, Joanne (Jose “Joey”) Sanchez of Edinburg, Michael (Stacey) Guerra , Rodney “Rod” (Maria De La Luz “Lucy”) Guerra, both of Alamo; 20 grandchildren, Ryan, Kayla, Chelsea, Marcos, Megan, Jase, Krystian, Kalyssa, Kalynna, Kalijah, Sebastian, Savannah, Sarah, Shawn, Rebecca, Kimberly, Justin, Vanessa, Aryn, Amanda; two sisters, Ines Rosas, Hilda Guerra; and two brothers, Candelario and Rene Guerra, all of San Juan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3895 of La Joya. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
