MARTINA “MARTY” L. GUERRA EDINBURG - Martina “Marty” L. Guerra of Edinburg, Texas, 44 entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. Marty was born on August 17, 1971 in Weslaco, Texas to Roberto R. (deceased) and Carmen Sierra. Marty is preceded in death by her father, Roberto R. Sierra and a brother, Robert M. Sierra. Marty is survived by her loving husband, Rolando J. Guerra; her stepsons Rolando G., Rico J. and Roel A. Guerra; her mother Carmen Sierra, Mercedes, Texas; a sister Roberta A. Sierra of Edinburg, Texas; a brother Ramiro C. Sierra of Mercedes, Texas; her in-laws, Dr. Ernesto C. and Marty Guerra, of San Antonio, Texas, Carlos X. and Sister Guerra of Linn, Texas, Betty F. Rogers of Edinburg, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Marty graduated from Mercedes High School in 1989 and attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville where she received a Bachelor of Arts of Education in 1993. She followed her love of Education and began her career as an elementary music teacher in Harlingen, Texas in 1993. Marty then went on to teach in Edinburg CISD where she taught Music Education at Brewster and Lee Elementary, she also taught History at Barrientes Middle School and South Middle School. Marty had a passion for all she did in the classroom and for her students. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas where she served as an active member of the Decorating and Social Committees. Marty was a member of the ACTS community where she shared her spiritual devotion. Marty was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Marty instilled great values and faith to everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved Yorkies, Chacho and Lalo. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, students and all those whose lives she touched. Her family would like to express their gratitude to Father Kumar, Father Chris, and Father Richard for their weekly visits and their endless spiritual support. They also will like to thank Dr. Luis M. Rodriguez and staff and Dr. and Mrs. Ernesto C. Guerra, both from San Antonio, Texas. A special thanks to Dr. James Castillo and staff and Henrietta J. Peynado, FNP-BC, ACHPN at Valley Baptist Medical Center Palliative Care, Harlingen, Texas. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg and from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with a 8 p.m. rosary at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 E. Kuhn, in Edinburg, Texas. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Having the distinguished honor of serving as Pallbearers are Rolando G. Guerra, Rico J. Guerra, Roel A. Guerra, Refugio Aguirre III, Carlos R. Aguirre, and Anthony Rios. In an effort to keep Marty’s teaching legacy alive, and in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donation checks be made to The Martina L. Guerra Memorial Scholarship Fund and mail to Sister Guerra, P.O. Box 81 Linn, Texas 78563. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg
