MANUEL GUTIERREZ MISSION — Manuel Gutierrez, 85, born September 11, 1928 in Romita, Guanajuaro, Mexico, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 21, 2013. He lived in Mission, TX for the majority of his life; was self-employed as a bricklayer in the Rio Grande Valley and the surrounding area, as well as a seasonal farm worker. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Salvador Gutierrez; a daughter, Maria de la Luz Gutierrez; his parents, Dionicio and Jovita Gutierrez; a brother, Luz Gutierrez; and two sisters, Carmen Maldonado and Juanita Gutierrez. Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his wife, Maria de la Luz “Luzita” Gutierrez; 11 children, Toni Rhodes, Esequiel (Lydia) Gutierrez Sr., Janie (Ruben Sr.) Villegas, Mario (Gloria) Gutierrez, Delia (Mike) Camp, Linda (Porfirio) Diaz, Rey Gutierrez, Sylvia (Ben) Lau, Manuel (Laura) Gutierrez Jr., Bettye (Don) Wiginton and Nicho (Judith) Gutierrez; a daughter-in-law, Imelda Gutierrez; 32 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jesus Gutierrez; and five sisters, Lupita Gutierrez, Teresita Rosales, Jovita Gonzales, Nena Hidrojo and Estela Gonzales. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, October 22, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at El Divino Redentor in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
