SAN ANTONIO — Tomas G. Guzman, 89, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria M. Guzman; and by his parents.
Born in Mexico, Mr. Guzman lived in San Antonio for the past 12 years. He served in the United States Army Air Corps. and National Guard for 34 years. During his time in the military, he received various medals, including the Army Good Conduct 1941 Medal, Victory WWII Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Theater Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Carbine Medal, and Rifle Medal.
Mr. Guzman is survived by five daughters, Lupita Garcia of Pharr, Maria Dolores (Eleazar) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Aracelia ( Silvestre) Villarreal of Edinburg, San Juanita (John) Castillo of California, Dalinda De La Garza of Pharr; four sons, Senovio (Terry) Guzman, Tomas (Bonnie) Guzman, Saul (Isabel) Guzman all of Pharr, and Pilar Guzman of Waco, Texas; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a brother, Pilar (Emy) Garcia of Denver, Colorado.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service today, April 15, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3895 from La Joya.
