Bernarda M. Hernandez, 91, entered eternal rest Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Our beloved mother/grandmother Bernarda (Nina) was a selfless woman, a woman of great faith and the matriarch of our family who always placed God and family first. She was a humble, wise, and hard-working woman who loved to be with family, especially during the holidays. She was the embodiment of love. You could feel that love being in the same room with her. She once said that the life of a woman was a life of great sacrifice, and she was a true example of that.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Concepcion Hernandez; her mother, Brijida Martinez; three daughters, Maria Del Rosario Ramirez, Martha Gonzalez, Maria Magdalena Hinojosa; a son, Luis Hernandez; sons and daughter-in-law, Artemio Hinojosa, Alicia Hernandez, Antonio Canales; a nephew Marcos Lopez Jr; and a grandson, Eloy Canales.
Bernarda is a survived by a son, Raul (Stephanie) Hernandez of Edinburg; six daughters, Dolores Canales of McAllen, Alicia Salinas of Corpus Christi, Lupita Hernandez, Connie Hernandez, Ana Luisa (Albert) Alvarez, all of Edinburg, Dr. Maricela Hernandez of San Antonio; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Teresa (Jose Luis) Vega of Edinburg, Ventura Ortiz of Port Arthur, Julia Lopez of Suffolk, West Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; and her surviving pets, 14 fur grand babies; and five birds.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Pallbearers will be Gilberto Gonzalez, Christopher James Salinas, Luis Hernandez II, Carlos Alberto Ramirez, Jonas Michael Hernandez, Cody-Keith Homer Hernandez, and Nikolas Andrew Garza.
Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Salinas, Leonel Canales, Rey Ramirez Jr., Michael Canales, John Gregory Salinas, Juan Artemio Hinojosa, Keith Hernandez, Gilberto Gonzalez Jr., Gilberto Martin Olivarez, Santiago Canales, Joaquin Santiago Alonzo, and Noah Skylar Enriquez.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
