EDINBURG – LCpl Derek “Prime Time” Hernandez, 20, entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduing Freedom.
LCpl. Hernandez was born Edinburg and had lived there all of his life. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 2008 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July of 2008.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Hector Reyna and his paternal grandmother, Lazara Hernandez
LCpl. Hernandez is survived by his mother, Virginia Reyna; his father, Israel (Cynthia) Hernandez; two brothers, Israel (Dacia) Hernandez Jr. and Devin Israel Hernandez; a sister, Erica M. Hernandez; maternal grandmother, Eva M. Reyna; paternal grandfather, Francisco Hernandez; a nephew, Brandon R. Hernandez; a niece, Kayla M. Hernandez; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, June 14, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr with full military honors.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
