RAUL HERNANDEZ SOUTH BEND, IN - Raul Hernandez, 63, was healed and went to be with Jesus Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Raul was born in Brownsville, TX on August 14, 1950 to Guadalupe and Franscisca Hernandez. On May 3, 1999 he married the former Nancy Lewndowski in South Bend, IN. Before retiring in 2011, Raul worked for Am. General for 39 years. He was a member of UAW Local 5. Some of the many things Raul loved were: fishing, gardening, watching western movies, family cookouts, Tejano music, knives, his gun collection, beer, whiskey, his hats (sombreros), singing, but above all the things he loved was his family. Raul was a giving man to all he knew and even those he didn't know. He was extremely proud of his work at the Am. General and also the work he did at home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Francisca Hernandez. Raul is survived by his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Veronica (Justin) Lewis of Mishawaka, IN, Esmeralda (P.J.) Pettijohn of Westfield, IN, Elvira (Rudy) Orosco of Edinburg; three stepsons, Christopher (Carrie) Kopinski of Indianapolis, IN, William Richardson, IV of Rockford, WA, Joseph Richardson of South Bend, IN; 12 grandchildren, Braedon, Mikayla, Blake, Kaleb, Aubrey, Maria, Alex, Ja’lyjah, Au’mor, Rudy, Samuel, Savannah; three sisters, Elva Sanchez of Sebastian, TX, Rosa (Kiko) Garza of Edinburg, Jesusa Ramirez of Garland, TX; five brothers, Ruben (Estella) Hernandez of Mission, Daniel (Elva) Hernandez, Ernesto (Alicia) Hernandez, Eugene (Linda) Hernandez and Rudy Hernandez, all of Edinburg. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today, December 10, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. today, December 10, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to Riley Children’s Foundation, 30 South Meridian Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
