VICENTA "VICENTITA" HERNANDEZ
ALAMO - Vicenta "Vicentita" Hernandez, 64, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mrs. Hernandez lived in Alamo for 36 years and became a US citizen in 2007. She enjoyed and loved helping others. In 1984 she began her volunteer career with P-SJ-A ISD (Ben Franklin Elem., Farias Elem, Alamo Middle and Memorial High School) where she contributed thousands of hours for over 20 years making her volunteer of the year most years. Mrs. Hernandez was also a member of the LPAC committee, held an officer position for the parent Chapter One Parent Advisory Council and was a member of the M.A.S.H program. Vicentita had a passion for cooking and during the early 1980's she taught an after school nutrition program in her home to the neighborhood youth. She was a member and a Guadalupana for Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Mrs. Hernandez was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Erasmo Hernandez; her parents; one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her son, Erasmo Hernandez Jr., of Alamo; two daughters, Emily H. (Gustavo Eli) Alegria of San Juan, Amy H. (Ramiro) Singleterry of Alamo; one grandchild, Ella Faith Alegria; siblings, Jose Rodriguez, Lourdes Pedraza, Candelo Rodriguez, Maria De Los Angeles Rodriguez, Francisco Rodriguez, all of Reynosa, Tamps., and Felipe Rodriguez of North Carolina. Pallbearers will be Gustavo Eli Alegria, Ramiro Singleterry, Jose Rodriguez, Candelo Rodriguez, Antonio Quintanilla Jr., and Jose Miguel Singleterry. Honorary Pallbearer will be Erasmo Hernandez Jr.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
