FELIPE DE JESUS HERRERA
EDINBURG - Felipe De Jesus Herrera, 76, of Edinburg, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2016, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edinburg to Joseph Herrera and Nicolasa Mercado.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Herrera and Nicolasa Medrano; and three siblings, Bibiano Herrera, Rosario Herrera, Ana Estimbo.
Felipe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Olga Lopez Herrera who cared for him and was always by his side through his battle with cancer; three daughters, Beatriz (Arnold) Canales, Yvonne G. (Joe) Prado, Yvette D. (Rick) Garcia, all of Edinburg; two siblings, Miguel Herrera of Edinburg and Sylvia Rendon of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Felipe was a passionate man who enjoyed hunting, watching football and cheering on his favorite team, The Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and friend to all. Felipe will be greatly missed. He worked as a supervisor for Valley Shamrock for many years. Felipe then became self employed and owned and operated Shorty's Truck Stop in Pharr. He also operated Clover Mart convenience stores 1 & 2 in Edinburg and gasoline stations in Havanna, San Benito and La Gloria. Felipe was a courageous fighter who battled kidney cancer then lung cancer. He was a strong man who did not give up on life easily and fought to the end. The family would like to give special thanks to Texas Oncology, Dr. Billie Marek, his nurse, America, Alegre Home Health nurses and staff and Joe Arambula (physical therapist) for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer at 1200 E. Ridge Rd. Ste. 1, McAllen, TX 78503.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
