LIBRADA "LILE" HERRERA
ALAMO - Librada H. Herrera, 101, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
Mrs. Herrera was born in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and had lived in Alamo since 1935. She attended evening classes to learn English and earn her United States Citizenship; she knew how to play the piano, how to sew and received her seamstress certificate through the mail. She also was known for her tasty tamales and mole. She was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary daily and was a member of Hijas de Maria, Las Guadalupas, the Altar Society and the Mother's Club. She was also very involved with the Brownies and Girl Scouts. Mrs. Herrera was an outstanding person who had many friends and taught her children to respect, the importance of family values and to trust in God.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Estanislao "Tanis" Herrera, in May of 1990; and an infant son.
Mrs. Herrera is survived by four children, Fernando (Elmosa) Herrera, of San Antonio, Texas and children, Fernando Jr. (Aissa), Diana (Dagoberto) and Cristina, Esteban (Lilia) Herrera, of Pharr, and their children, Lillian (Milton) and Michael, a daughter, Maria Elena (Enrique) Moya, of Alamo, and their children, Ruben, Enrique III (Monica) and Anna Maria; Gilbert (Olivia) Herrera, of Alamo, and their son, David; a daughter-in-law, Elia R. Herrera, of Alamo; and eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Andrea, Brisa, Jarod, Kindra, Mariah, Marco and Steven.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7:30 pm rosary today, December 10, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 11 am Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
