FEDERICO G. HINOJOSA
EDINBURG – Federico G. Hinojosa, 94, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at his residence in Edinburg.
Born in Cipres, Texas, Mr. Hinojosa had lived in Edinburg most of his life and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Hinojosa was a career law enforcement officer. He was employed by Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years, and later by the Edinburg Police Department for 10 years, until his retirement in 1980.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Zulema T. Hinojosa; his parents, Fabian G. and Jacinta Hinojosa; and two brothers, Hector and Arturo Hinojosa.
Mr. Hinojosa is survived by two sons, Judge Federico “Fred” (Maggie) Hinojosa, Jr., of McAllen and Ricardo N. (Sylvia) Hinojosa, of Weslaco; five grandchildren, Cynthia Hinojosa (Chris) Bailey, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Cassandra Hinojosa (Henry) Howell, of Houston, Texas, Ricardo N. Hinojosa, Jr., Gabriel A. Hinojosa and Isaac G. Hinojosa, all of Weslaco; five great-grandchildren, Sean C. Bailey, Erin E. Bailey, Alyssa K. Bailey, Isaiah R. Hinojosa and Christian N. Hinojosa; a brother, Adan Hinojosa, and sister, Eva E. Hinojosa, both of Edinburg; a sister-in-law, Idolina T. Garza, of Alice, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, July 20, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 am Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Alberto Gutierrez, Dr. Antonio Wong, Dr. Harish Koolwal, Beyamar Hospice, and especially to his long-time caregiver, Dolores Zapata.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
