Hortencia Rodriguez Diaz, 95, of Edinburg, TX passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 8, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Oscar Diaz Sr.; parents, Alberto Rodriguez and Donata Garza Rodriguez; siblings, Amelia Rodriguez Garcia, Lydia Rodriguez Rivera, Mary Alice Rodriguez Alcantar, Fernando Rodriguez, Alberto Rodriguez, Noe Rodriguez and Ernesto Rodriguez. She is also preceded in death by six children, Oscar Diaz (infant), Rolando Diaz (infant), Rene Diaz, Jaime Javier Diaz, Diana E. Diaz Garza, and Alberto Diaz.
Left to cherish her memory are her six remaining children, Oscar Diaz Jr., Mary Ann Diaz Cantu (+Robert Cantu), David Diaz (Elisa Cantu Diaz), Homer Diaz (Ana Cadena Diaz), Rodolfo Diaz (Lynda Ferrel Diaz), and Ruben Diaz. Her living siblings include: Minerva Rodriguez Garcia (Anthony Garcia) and Elida Rodriguez Oraze (Roger Oraze) of California. Her legacy will live on through her 18 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Diaz was known for her kindness, generosity, and fervent love for her family. She had the most beautiful smile that would brighten up any room. On any given day, you would find her crocheting colorful doilies, listening to her favorite Tejano music in the kitchen while cooking or baking, watching her favorite soap opera, "As the World Turns," or reading the newspaper. She enjoyed spending time with her faithful husband by attending the baseball games that he umpired and attending dances almost every weekend with him.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
The family would like to thank DHR Hospice staff for their compassionate care during our mom's illness. Sandra, Zeke, Marissa, Hilda, Sandra D., and Balde, may God bless you for going above and beyond the care that you gave Mom.
We would also like to thank our friends and relatives for the love and support, especially to her provider, Elva, whose love and devotion towards Mom was one of her biggest blessings during the final years of her life's journey.
