ALICIA GARZA HUERTA EDINBURG/AUSTIN – Alicia Garza Huerta, 70, died Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. Mrs. Huerta was born in Edinburg and had lived there most of her life. She graduated from Pan American College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She began her career at the Little Red School House and worked as a teacher at Sacred Heart School and then with the Edinburg Consolidated School District. She returned to Pan American and earned a Master’s in Education with a Specialty in Reading. She served as the Reading Specialist at South Jr. High until her retirement in 2000. She had a very strong faith and was highly involved in her parish, serving in many ministries at Sacred Heart Church in Edinburg and later, at St. Ignatius in Austin, TX. She valued family above all else and took joy in moments shared together. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Librada Garza; four sisters, Estella Garza, Maria Hinojosa, Irene Garza, Beatriz Lopez; and four brothers, Alejandro Garza, Alfredo Garza, Elias Garza and Pablo Garza, Jr. Mrs. Huerta is survived by her husband, Wenceslado “Wes” Huerta of Austin; two sons, Miguel (Norma Olivarez) Huerta of Austin, Roberto (Marisa I.) Huerta of Edinburg; a daughter, Marisa G. Huerta of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Irena, Lorenzo, Ally, Sofia; a sister, Lydia (Howard) Muehlberger of Edinburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog, Buddy. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
