JOSE G. INFANTE
PHARR – Jose G. Infante, 94, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Solara Hospital in McAllen.
Born in Harlingen, Mr. Infante had lived in Pharr most of his life. He worked at Valley Fruit Company where he maintained the equipment for 20 years, and at PSJA ISD Maintenance Dept. for 16 years. Mr. Infante was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. Sgt. Jose G. Infante was awarded the Bronze Medal for saving the life of one of his superior officers in France. He carried the officer from a stream where he had fallen from wounds received in battle, and placed him in a place away from enemy fire, after which he administered first aid.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose A. Infante and Maria Gomez Infante; two grandchildren, Arturo “Tippy” Vela and Maya Luna Alvear; three siblings, Carmen I. Gonzales, Benito Infante, Esmeralda I. Tello.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Consuelo Mendoza Infante of Pharr; his loving children, Ana (Rudy) Vela of Grand Prairie, TX, Joe Infante and Nora of McAllen, Linda Infante of Pharr, Roy (Letty) Infante of Sharyland, Nelda (Alberto) Jara of Hempstead, TX, Juan (Isabel) Infante of Edinburg, Hilda (Richard) Reyna of Katy, TX, Zelda Mettlach of Edinburg, Merri Christmas (Ken) Hertzler of Milton, FL, Melba (+Dale) Whitlenberg of Alvin, TX, Veronica (Carlos) Ulloa of San Antonio, TX, Jackie Infante of Kemah, TX; 32 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren;11 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernesto (Elena) Infante of McAllen, Alfredo (Helen) Infante of Angelton, TX, Rudy (+Juan) Infante of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Herminia Peralez, Diamantina Ramirez, Deborah Castillo; brothers-in-law, Reyes Tello and Nat (Dora) Mendoza, all of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Esperanza (+Alfredo) Salazar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses from Solara Hospital ICU for giving their father such special care on his final days. They would also like to thank his provider, Eva Garza.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
