Janie Lee Fox

Janie Lee Fox, 93, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg.

After graduating from Blountville High School in Blountville, TN, she moved to D.C. and attended the University of Maryland. She did modeling for Catalina Sportswear. She also worked at the Pentagon as a clerk typist. Janie then began working as a telephone operator in D.C., New York City, Los Angeles and Texas. At the telephone company, she won the "voice and courtesy" contest two different years, with all-expense paid trips to Bermuda and Nassau. After she moved to North Hollywood, California from New York, she won a Jean Harlow look-alike contest which included a complete wardrobe and a trip to Las Vegas.

In the Rio Grande Valley, she worked for Southwestern Bell, Sentry Systems and Security International Alarm Monitoring Station, from which she retired in 2000.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Fox; son, Dirk Fox; parents, Albert and Etta Galliher; and a brother, James Leighton.

Mrs. Fox is survived by her two children, Tyran Fox Rendon, Vallen D. Fox; five grandchildren, Fox (Alejandro) Rendon, Talena Fox (Aly) Kamil, Valerie Fox (Tom) Ortiz, Maritza Fox, Matthew Fox; nine great-grandchildren; two siblings, Carolyn Gill, Linda "Cricket" Cummings; her best friend and sister in heart, Billy Jean Blanton and her son, Mark.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral Service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.

Pallbearers will be Vallen Fox, Kevin Ramirez, Crispin Rendon, Alex Villapando, Abel Vela and Erasmo Castillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Cantu, Omar Rendon, and Ruben "Bubba" Palacios.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
