ALAMO - Abelardo "Chacha" Jimenez Sr., 64, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at McAllen Medical Center.
Mr. Jimenez was born in Kingsville, Tx, and lived in Alamo most of his life. He was a legend, was inducted into the Tejano Hall of Fame and because of his talents received numerous awards. "Chacha" was loved by many and all that new him, but especially by his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Abel and Elida Jimenez; two brothers, Abel Jimenez, Jr. Arturo Jimenez, Sr.; one sister, Lucia Jimenez Orta.
Mr. Jimenez is survived by his wife, Marina R. Jimenez of Alamo; three children, Abelardo Jimenez, Jr. of Brownwood,Tx, Jessika (John Hanzalik) Jimenez of Corpus Christi, Tx, Ronica Jackson of Houston, Tx; six grandchildren, four brothers, Arnoldo Jimenez of Alamo, Andres Jimenez of Lexingtion, Tn, Alfredo Jimenez and Antonio Jimenez both of Kingsville, Tx; a sister, Martina Jimenez of Kingsville, Tx; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, June 16, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 9 am, Friday, June 17, 2011 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
