TORIBIO JIMENEZ Toribio Jimenez, 94, of San Juan, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 5, 2012, with his love of 73 years by his side. Born in 1918, Jimenez married his sweetheart, Beatrice Suarez, in 1940, and they had seven children. Jimenez enjoyed a lifetime filled with love and pride in his family’s accomplishments and achievements. A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, Jimenez was very active in his community. A lifelong Democrat with a passion for politics, Jimenez was involved in many federal, state and local elections. Jimenez was a master mason, and employed as a laborer for many years with Hidalgo County Precinct #2. Jimenez is remembered fondly by his family and friends as an eternal optimist who led a positive life, always choosing to see the silver lining in every situation. He was truly a family man, always placing others’ needs before his own. He believed in justice and education, and fostered a life of opportunity for his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved him tremendously, and his passing leaves an immeasurable void. He will be greatly missed. Jimenez was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Thornton; four sisters, Socorro Gonzalez, Herminia Villagomez, Felipa Jimenez, Angelina J. Reyes; and one brother, Anselmo Jimenez. Jimenez leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his loving wife, Beatrice Suarez Jimenez, of San Juan, Texas; his seven children, Viola (Valdemar) Guerra of Alamo, Texas, Romeo (Alicia) Jimenez of San Juan, Texas, Arnoldo (Rosario) Jimenez of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ruben (Kathy) Jimenez of Ocala, Florida, Artemio (Alexis) Jimenez, of Belleville, Michigan, Odilia (Kenneth) Thornton, of Waco, Texas, and Bobby Jimenez, of San Juan, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, October 8, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
