JOAN M. ROBLES PHILPOT

PHARR – Joan M. Robles Philpot, 60, entered eternal rest, surrounded by her family, on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

Joanie was born in San Juan, Texas and was a native of Pharr, Texas and a proud PSJA Bear.

Joanie was such a joy to be around and never met a stranger. She always brought a vivacious energy with her wherever she went. Her wit was unmatched, and her laugh was infectious. Joanie, when she burped, taught everyone that it was better to taste it, than to waste it—which is actually a life lesson. Her generosity overflowed and we could only hope for a heart like hers. She loved to cook, and her family and friends will greatly miss her legendary enchiladas and tortillas. She expressed her love through acts of kindness and support for others.  She was able to do this one last time through the gift of organ donation.  The family takes great comfort in knowing she will continue to bless others even after her death. 

Joanie is survived by two children, Anna S. (Mitch) Arredondo of Port Isabel and Billy Mendoza of Sullivan, IL; two grandchildren, Xavier Arredondo and Cici Carmona; her parents, Romeo R. and Rosa C. Robles of Pharr; three siblings, Mary Lou Doeppenschmidt (Larry†) of McAllen, Romeo (Janet) Robles of Pharr, Roel (Cathy Clark†) Robles of South Padre Island.

Joanie, also known as Aunt Ursula, was the loving Tía to Christopher Doeppenschmidt, Andrew (Amy) Doeppenschmidt, James Robles (Adam Snyder), Rebecca (Caleb) Garza, Micah (Mandie) Robles; great niece Robin Rose and great nephews Miles Keith, Isaiah Lee, and Jesse James.

She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Larry Doeppenschmidt; sister-in-law, Cathy L. Clark; nephew, Noah A. Robles; and her former husband, Billy Michael Philpot.

Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
