ABEL DIAZ, JR.
EDINBURG - Abel Diaz Jr., 79, died Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Solara Hospital in McAllen.
Born in Mercedes, Mr. Diaz had lived in Edinburg most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Abel Sr. and Francisca Diaz; two brothers, Hector and Arnoldo Diaz; and a sister, Minerva Diaz.
Mr. Diaz is survived by his wife, Alma Diaz, of Edinburg; seven children, Dahlinda (Arnoldo) Alaniz, of Austin, Texas, Elizabeth Diaz, Vivian (Gabriel) Saenz, both of McAllen, Abel (Norma) Diaz III, Dr. Yvonne Diaz, Michael J. Diaz and Eric Diaz, all of Edinburg; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Aaron and Andrea Diaz and Makayla Saenz; two brothers, Heriberto Diaz, of McAllen, Homero Diaz, of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Margarita Gamez, of Brownsville.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm prayer service today, October 25, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 9 am Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
