Richard L. "Dick" Keefer Sr., 81, entered eternal rest Friday, December 3, 2021, at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, Texas.
Dick graduated from McAllen High School in 1958. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Navy and served his country for eight years. After his service, he continued his education at Pan American College in Edinburg, Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Physics. He was an educator for Weslaco ISD in the mid-seventies. Immediately after that, he was employed by AT&T, formally known as Southwestern Bell, from which he retired in 2000. Dick could never be still and went to work as a private contractor until he entered full retirement in 2012. Dick believed everyone should always work and strive to obtain the best education available and should always maintain a strong work ethic. During his off time, he was always busy helping others in need and tinkering in his garage. He was a very active member of the church serving as president, head elder, and elder. He was a devoted husband who would move mountains for his wife. They had the kind of love for each other that every couple wishes they had. We can still remember countless times where you would see them walking down the street hand in hand. Dick will be greatly missed by all and may God bless his soul.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen Keefer, and a brother, Larry Keefer.
He met the love of his life, Irma, and they raised four children together, Richard, Sherree, Kenneth, and Javier (Jay). In addition, he had eleven grandchildren, James, Lisa, Melissa, Christopher, Stuart, Nathaniel, Hannah, Noah, Thomas, Andrew, and Bryan. He also had eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Gavin, Levi, Gwen, Kennedy, Zayden, Aubrie, and Oliver.
The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, 226 South Alamo Road, Alamo, TX.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
